This is what a canoe rafting tour on the Iller can look like

From boarding the inflatable canoe together to focused paddling through rapids and the competitive team rally — canoe rafting on the Iller is action, nature experience, and team challenge all in one summer day.

Everything you ever wanted to know about canoe rafting on the Iller

How is a canoe rafting tour on the Iller structured?

In an inflatable canoe, three people head through the rapids of the Iller. Before the start: a short introduction to the art of boating by our certified guide — paddling technique, boat steering, safety basics. Then into the river: eddy turns, rapids, water fun with a specific team task — because the boat only goes where the whole crew paddles simultaneously.

What are the options for the tour?

The tour is adaptable to water level and fitness level. For athletic groups: navigating courses through narrow passages, crossing the river as a team as a coordination challenge, a rescue exercise as a survival element. For mixed groups: a calmer pace with a focus on a shared nature experience. Optional team rally for action lovers — a competitive version where the team must prove itself.

In classic rafting, a professional guide steers the large raft; the team paddles along, but the responsibility lies with the guide. In canoe rafting, you sit in groups of three in an inflatable canoe and steer yourselves — boat handling, course decisions, rescue maneuvers: all as a team. More personal responsibility, a steeper learning curve, more direct contact with the water — and a significantly more affordable price point (from €59 instead of €129).

  • Paddle and steer yourself — no passive riding
  • Master rapids in an inflatable canoe
  • Optional team rally with a competitive character
  • Mental coaching frame from the national whitewater team (see PDF)

Where does the canoe rafting take place?

We start at the ICO Outdoor Center directly on the Iller. Here, equipment is distributed, safety instructions are given, and then we head together to the entry point. The Iller in the Allgäu section offers a gentle current with small rapids — ideal for families and mixed groups, with adjustable difficulty levels.

What does the ICO Outdoor Center on the river offer?

After the tour is before the wind-down: Hot showers, bar with drinks and snacks, foosball, lounge area, bouldering wall — all directly on the river with a mountain view. The perfect place to review the tour experiences, warm up, and end the day together.

Depending on the water level and daily conditions, we choose entry and exit points. With high water: a shorter, intense route with more action. With low water: a longer, calm tour with more focus on enjoyment. Weather (almost) doesn’t matter — if it rains, it just gets wetter; if it’s sunny, it’s a perfect summer day. Only in the event of a thunderstorm is it postponed.

  • ICO Outdoor Center directly on the river with all comforts
  • Iller in the Allgäu — light to medium rapids, adaptable
  • Mountain view from the sun deck after the tour
  • Foosball, bar, bouldering wall for the end of the day

Canoe Rafting Tour Schedule

We meet at the ICO Outdoor Center near Blaichach. After the welcome and equipment distribution (wetsuit, life jacket, helmet), a safety briefing follows by the certified guide. Practice the first paddling techniques on dry land, then head together to the entry point on the Iller.

What is best to wear?

Swimwear under the wetsuit, a change of clothes in the car for after the tour, waterproof sunscreen, sunglasses with a strap (to prevent loss). Sturdy footwear (old sneakers or water shoes — they will get wet!), no open sandals. Towel for the wind-down.

In the team rally, the fun factor is expanded by a competitive component: various stations along the river where teams compete against each other — paddling speed, target throwing, boat obstacle course. The team that coordinates best wins — and at the end, there is a small reward for the winners.

Canoe rafting on the Iller is a 2–3 hour summer experience for 6–200 people, from €59 p.p. — the team paddles themselves in an inflatable canoe, unlike classic rafting. Learn the art of boating, master rapids, optional team rally with a competitive character. Season April–October, meeting point at the ICO Outdoor Center directly on the Iller with showers, bar, and lounge for the wind-down. Also suitable for families.
