Team building in Oberstdorf

Team building & training at the ICO Skywalk Oberstdorf

Have you always been fascinated by ski jumping and want to aim high with your team? The ICO Skywalk in the ORLEN Arena Oberstdorf is a one-of-a-kind training location worldwide — right between the Four Hills Tournament ski jumps. Here, we combine outdoor adventure, team building and real development into a format participants will still be talking about years later.

A unique setting in the heart of the ORLEN Arena Oberstdorf

The ICO Skywalk is far more than a high ropes course — it is an experience and learning space for team development, mental strength and resilience, right in the legendary Oberstdorf ski jumping stadium. Peter Tümmers von Schoenebeck built the Skywalk himself. As a former DSV Olympic mental coach, he knows the ski jumps from a coach’s perspective — and has translated them into a learning space for companies and teams. Where elite athletes push beyond their limits, we foster mental strength, clarity and team cohesion.

Who the location is suitable for

The ICO Skywalk is the ideal event location for:

Facilities: Skywalk Arena Oberstdorf

Uniquely located between the ski jumps:

Three example ways to experience the ICO Skywalk

From the 6 bookable modules, we compose your individual event. Three typical focus areas show what is possible at the Skywalk — each Big Event combines hands-on experience with a core methodological competence of ICO. You may choose freely from the modules, or have the ICO coordination team configure the perfect event for you.

"Schanzengaudi" team event

Event content:

Against the backdrop of the Allgäu Alps, your team will connect in a new way — through the outdoor experience. Action, competitions and real team building at one of the most spectacular event locations in southern Germany. Suitable as an incentive, kick-off, team event or training event — we will design your individual schedule with you.

Learning objectives:

Schanzengaudi is a proven module composition — curated from years of practice for the optimal mix of action, team building and lasting memories. These three ICO modules form the standard framework. Each component can be swapped for another module and expanded with add-ons. This turns the ready-made concept into your individual event day.

High ropes course with many stations

Three height levels — three learning levels. In the ground parcours, your team sharpens communication and strategy without fear of heights. The team high parcours at 4–12 metres makes mutual belaying a key competence. Those who want to go all the way up will soar in the sky parcours at 30 metres over the Big Flying Fox and Giant Swing — memories that will not fade.

Adrenaline highlight: ski jump tubing

Three ski jumps — three speeds. On an inflatable special sled, you race down from K19, K30 or K56 — on mats in summer, on snow in winter. If you want to raise the fun factor, challenge the team to compete in the target wall challenge: hitting the target at full speed is the supreme discipline and provides anecdotes for months to come.

Ski jumper feeling & ski jump tour

Via the ceramic track of the large hill, you climb up safely secured to where only professionals normally stand — the start bar at 80 metres with a spectacular view over Oberstdorf. Original ski jumping skis, helmet and bib number complete the moment. The subsequent ski jump tour through the Four Hills Tournament area provides insights others only ever see on TV.

What happens at the Skywalk has methodological depth. Each Big Event is linked to our core competences via proven ICO methods — so the adrenaline moment does not stay in the valley, but is transferred into everyday working life.

Mental training in the Skywalk

Event content:

Our ICO Skywalk Oberstdorf is an ideal place for self-management training of all kinds. Whether agile leadership with expedition athlete Peter Tümmers or mental coaching with Dr Kai Engbert, German Olympic psychologist: your coaching seminar will be a complete success here.

Learning objectives:

Mental training in the Skywalk combines three complementary ICO modules — from the theoretical mental training workshop to reflection in legendary spaces and a stress experience on the high ropes. The result is a day programme that trains inner strength on every level: cognitive, emotional and physical.

Ski jump workshop at the ski jumps

Theory from elite sport. As a former DSV Olympic mental coach, Peter Tümmers teaches concentration routines, pre-start visualisation and stress regulation — the mental tools that helped Hannawald and Schmitt jump to Olympic success. Translated into your day-to-day leadership.

Conference – reflection & anchoring

Reflection in legendary spaces. Conference and coaching sessions in the Ski Legends Room with historical exhibits, or in the glass ski jump tower at 40 metres. Where Olympians found their focus, you anchor your new mental know-how for everyday business — up to 50 people possible across 5 different room settings.

High ropes course & ground training

Mental training under real-time stress. In the ground parcours (swamp bridge, diamond pond), your team trains clear thinking under time pressure without height risk. On the team high parcours at 4–12 metres (Mohawk Walk, trapeze bridge), dealing with physical stress becomes tangible as team responsibility. Self-regulation is not explained — it is felt.

Methods from DSV elite sport meet ICO coaching tools. What Peter Tümmers taught Olympic jumpers before the decisive jump becomes tangible for leaders here — with direct translation into everyday working life.

Team building in the Skywalk

Event content:

Trust under real pressure, role clarity on the high ropes and mutual belaying — team building in the Skywalk makes tangible what is only discussed in a seminar room. With a “One Team” final project (giant puzzle, shared large ball, or building an individual slogan) created from the team wins earned during the day, the experience becomes a concrete shared achievement.

Learning objectives:

Team building in the Skywalk combines three complementary ICO modules — from the adrenaline kick-off to the learning pyramid on the high ropes and the one-team finale in the conference setting. Three phases create a day that carries your team from the icebreaker moment to a shared success moment. One example:

Team development on the ground

Team development starts on the ground. In exercises such as “Diamond Pond” (Win as much as you can), swamp bridge or trust bridge, roles, communication and decision-making under real-time pressure become visible — without requiring the height comfort zone. The ideal kick-off to make team structures transparent.

Team development at height

Where belaying becomes a key competence. On the team high parcours at 4–12 metres (Mohawk Walk, trapeze bridge, team seesaw), success literally and figuratively depends on “holding on to the other person”. Anyone who dares to climb into the sky parcours at 30 metres (Big Flying Fox, Giant Swing) hands their trust to the team — and gets it back.

Celebrate success moments at height

From experience to a shared success moment. The day culminates in a one-team project — from a giant puzzle made from the team wins earned during the day, to transporting a large ball, to a shared slogan. The emotional finale is the personal presentation of the carabiner by the ICO trainers — a symbol of cooperation, trust and success.

Team building in the Skywalk makes trust physically tangible. What is only discussed in a seminar room becomes an experience on the high ropes — supported by ICO methods that have helped teams grow together sustainably for years.

Where theory becomes an experience

In 1995, Peter Tümmers built the first high ropes elements between the Oberstdorf ski jumps. Today, the ICO Skywalk is the only training facility of its kind worldwide — and a lesson in three principles that shape every Skywalk event.

Elite sports setting as a learning amplifier

Where ski jumpers experience their greatest moments, teams find it easier to let go. The atmosphere achieves what is impossible in a seminar room: genuine emotion that sticks.

Height experience as a trust trainer

From the ground to the team to the sky parcours at 30 metres — each level requires the next step of trust in the team. Those who stand safely secured at height are less afraid of responsibility at work.

Mental training directly from elite sport

The ICO method pool comes from Olympic preparation. What ski jumpers use before take-off helps leaders in pressure situations.

The ICO carabiner as a memory anchor

At the end, each participant receives an ICO carabiner presented personally — a symbol of cooperation, trust and success, and figuratively the anchor each person’s life depended on up on the high ropes. A small piece of metal that keeps the team experience present long beyond the event day.

These Skywalk modules are available
