Extreme Kayaking – 3 days & nights in the jungle

Veteran expedition paddlers Peter TvS and Klaus Felbinger, both nearly 60, are putting themselves to the test once again: together with two “Young Guns”—current German Kayak Freestyle World Championship paddlers Michael Frey and Sebastian Nelle (3rd in the European Championships and 2024 German Champion)—they are navigating the challenging Rio Jataté and its deep-cut canyon in the jungle between Mexico and Guatemala. The team is completed by Daniel Klee (canyoning expert) from “canyoning erleben.”

They spend three days and nights in the isolation of the tropical rainforest (no web, no mobile reception). Everything needed for three days must be carried in the short, extreme whitewater kayaks. Consequently, the otherwise agile boats become quite heavy.

In the event of a problem, the team is on its own. Careful planning, minimalist packing, and a competence-oriented distribution of tasks within the team are necessary to survive in extreme whitewater within an inaccessible canyon, far from any road.

The five of them made it through with a few minor injuries.
